OSU receives top best practice award for energy conservation efforts

Oklahoma State University has been honored with the “Grand Finalist” award by the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO).  The best practice award is for the university’s energy conservation program.

“This national award is not only recognition for the university but for every student and employee that has taken part in our conservation efforts,” said David Bosserman, OSU vice president of administration and finance. “We appreciate the work of our physical plant team and the support of the entire campus.”

The award was presented to OSU during the SACUBO annual meeting this week in Hot Springs, Virginia. Rick Krysiak, OSU Physical Plant Director, gave a presentation on the program’s success at the meeting and was presented a plaque and a $1,500 check for the university during the closing awards luncheon.

Since the summer of 2007 OSU has racked-up more than $5 million in energy savings.  The energy conservation initiative is a result of OSU’s partnership with Energy Education.  The national conservation company based in Dallas and founded by OSU alum William Spears has helped its clients save more than $1.5 billion.

Energy Education recently received the prestigious 2009 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency. This award recognizes organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency.
