EPA Lauds energy efforts

Leander — All 31 of the district's eligible buildings have earned ENERGY STAR labels from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, meaning that each building meets strict energy performance standards, including reduced energy use and greenhouse emissions.

Since starting an energy conservation program with Energy Education — a Dallas-based company that trains schools and churches to use less energy with existing resources, in 2001 — the district has saved more than $10.1 million in utility costs, officials said in a statement.
