Nearly every day, a newspaper somewhere in the country is carrying a story about the success of our clients’ energy conservation programs. Below are just a few examples of the great work they are doing, and the privilege it is to serve them in such tangible, noteworthy ways.
ARTESIA — Artesia Public Schools entered into an energy conservation program which has resulted in a savings of $228,113 in just 21 months. The 24 percent savings, following guidelines of Energy Education, Inc., enabled the district to give teachers a 1 ½ percent salary increase, Superintendent Mike Phipps told the Artesia Public Schools Board of Education at Monday night’s meeting.
Before the program, the district’s expected actual energy cost was $972,076. With the program in effect, the $228,113 savings resulted in an energy cost of $743,963. Actual energy costs include electricity, water, sewer and gas.
Cost avoidance includes program implementation resulting in behavior changes, energy education training and support and reductions in equipment run times.
Doug Neel, head of APS maintenance, is the energy manager in charge of the program and makes sure no lights are left on or equipment is left running after school hours.
Success of the program depends on the teamwork of all district personnel in following guidelines. Teachers are trained in methods to conserve energy.
Energy Education, Inc. fees are paid from the existing utility budget.
