Nearly every day, a newspaper somewhere in the country is carrying a story about the success of our clients’ energy conservation programs. Below are just a few examples of the great work they are doing, and the privilege it is to serve them in such tangible, noteworthy ways.

DeKalb Central saves $2 million on energy
BY KATHRYN BASSETT WATERLOO — The DeKalb Central school district has avoided more than $2 million in energy costs over the past four years, outpacing energy consultants’ projections by three years. The district’s energy savings manager, Ed Benbow, presented a report at Tuesday’s DeKalb Central school board meeting.
Energy consultants at Energy Education Inc. projected that the district would avoid $2.05 million gross or $1.54 million net in energy costs by the end of the seventh year of its energy education program.
Tuesday, Benbow said that at the end of four years, the district has avoided $2.58 million gross or $2.1 million net dollars.
Cost avoidance represents money the district would have spent if the board had not adopted the program, Benbow said.
As a result of the savings, the district has been able to retain staff programs, provide funds for libraries, staff and teacher supplies, increase wages and improve facilities, Benbow said.
Benbow said energy conservation opportunities exist in every corner of the district’s facilities. Preventative maintenance improves operating efficiency and reduces energy consumption, he added.
Benbow said the savings are made possible by the support and cooperation of all members of the district’s staff.
